The Ecumenical Catholic Church of the UK (ECCUK) was founded in November 2001 by Bishop Terry Flynn and others as an all inclusive and all-welcoming part of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church founded on the Apostles by Jesus Christ and as a sister communion of the Ecumenical Catholic Church of Australia.
At Pentecost 2002 the ECCUK was one of the founding jurisdictions of the United Ecumenical Catholic Church (UECC), formed by the merger of three distinct jurisdictions with a common drive and philosophy.
In 2009 an informal decision was taken to change the word “Catholic” to Christian in the usage of the ECCUK in order to present a more clearly understandable inclusivity and distinction from the common British usage of “Catholic” where the meaning is most often understood as “Roman Catholic”; however the constitution remains unchanged in the name of Ecumenical Catholic Church UK.
Both ECCUK and UECC are formally and legally constituted and incorporated at Companies House in the UK. UECC as the umbrella jurisdiction is also incorporated and registered internationally as a charity.
The great driver of the UECC is inclusion. Jesus came to extend the invitation to participate in God’s love to ALL, without distinction or discrimination. This is what we strive to do, to bring God to people and people to God, letting nothing and no one suggest that any is excluded or second-rate in God’s family and kingdom.
